With flooding on the mind, locals and out-of-towners, like me, went up to the levee to have a look at the water line.I was flagged down by Aaron, a barge worker with a two hour commute from home. He was killing time watching a young alligator. It was about 3 ft. long and camouflaged nicely in all the floating debris. I made a nerdy comment about the trash compactor monster from Star Wars. Aaron chuckled, and said, "Heh, ya, you remember that from Star Trek?". He was making baby alligator sounds to try to get it closer. I joked that he would end up attracting the attention of a big mama gator. He mentioned that a few days earlier, a 10 foot alligator was killed by the police along the levee nearby.
I thanked him for stopping me and moved on. See if you can spot the little guy in each debris photo.
Shaky phone video on my way home.
