With all of the photos and film scenes that take place in the Colosseum, I had low expectations on our way there. Like I've been there, done that, without the been or done. Huh? It's 4:30 AM, I've been up since 1, get off me.Walking down Via dei Fori Imperiali, we caught site of the massive arena from a long way off. At first I thought, nah, that's just some other awesome site along the way. When we got a little closer, it became clear that that indeed was our destination. Julien let a out a "Whoa! *$!@&#€£%*".
I was melting in the sun, my feet were fried, and the idea of queuing up for tickets was a bummer. I was tempted to take a tour of the exterior and call it done, but then I thought better of it, and we lined up. "When in Rome!". There, I got that out of my system.I should also mention, Julien has been a great travel companion. He's not too keen on the tourist scene and is game to make it up as we go along, but when it comes to waiting along with everyone else it's nice having someone to scout ahead and see what's in store. He puts on his iPod and sees how many songs he can get through before we're up. I'll end by saying my fears of being overexposed and not being able to appreciate the site were quickly vanquished. I'll post another video taken before we went in, then I'll follow up with a post from the interior.
